Carrot Cake

It sat between my dad and me,

foil-wrapped and left with love,

we did not know its name,

though it knew ours for sure.

A Home Office

The sun-warmed horizon of a favourite desk.

The generous weight of a well-worn pen.

The greetings of a half-finished word.

Football

A game's a game,

marching up and trudging back again,

it's all the same come wind or sun or rain,

naught to blame but us again.

Ego

I saw my shadow on the wall,

I thought myself a giant,

cruel it was for my eyes to lie.

A Cup of Tea

Steam rises,

someone coughs,

life can wait.

A Morning Walk

My road leads down familiar lanes,

greeting ghosts of youthful smiles,

today will improve tomorrow's failure.

Rock Bottom

Here you fall,

but here you will not stay,

laid on your back,

the only step is up,

the only sight is the stars.
