Airport Romance

The in-line eye-catch,

the quiet smile,

the future imagined.

A house, two-up two-down,

a chaotic dog and drawings on the fridge,

sunshine Sundays and cups of tea.

The argument,

you, or me, or life pushing,

breaking us apart.

The day it no longer hurts.

Then we're just strangers in line,

and we'll never meet.

Regrets

What do apologies mean to a grave?

What does promising to visit do?

What does meaning to call say?

Leaving friends unvisited,

parents unrung,

sights unseen.

You can’t look back and say,

it was inconvenient.

I meant to get round to it,

you didn’t have the time,

things just got in the way.

Do excuses matter to the dead?

What do apologies mean at a graveside?
